Does Child Development provide transportation and/or can my child ride the school bus to the preschool programs?

Transportation is not provided by the Child Development preschool programs.  Preschool children may not ride on the local school buses due to license and insurance regulations.

A home based option is available for families.

 

Do I need to send a lunch or snack to school with my child?

No, all meals and snacks are provided in all program options.

 

Do any Child Development Programs provide full day care?

Income-eligible families may combine Head Start and State Preschool services into a 7 1/2 hour preschool day.

 

What type of curriculum do the Child Development Programs use?

Home based Early Head Start programs use the Program for Infant/Toddler Care. Center based programs use The Creative Curriculum to implement developmentally appropriate practices. Home based Head Start also uses The Creative Curriculum.

 

Will my child be given enrollment priority if he/she has been diagnosed with a special need and has an IFSP/IEP?

Not necessarily, children must first meet State and/or Federal income guidelines before the special need is factored into the enrollment process. 

 

Does my child have to have a disability in order to receive support services from the Early Intervention Coordinator / Disability Coordinator?

No, the Early Intervention Coordinator is consulted with anytime a child may be in need of additional support services.  Support services may include but are not limited to, modification to classroom environment, speech and language concerns, behavioral support, special need information, Student Success Team meetings, referral to special education and LEA’s, as well as teacher and parent resource information.
