El Dorado County SELPA
"The members of the education community of El Dorado County believe that disputes can be effectively and creatively resolved and /or prevented at an early and informal level."
The El Dorado County SELPA was the recipient of a grant from the California Department of Education to pilot a program and design a model for alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Through a collaborative design process that included parents, educators and community members, an ADR System was developed and Solutions Panel (English) [Solutions Panel (Spanish)] were put in place as an informal method of settling disagreements. It is a process that encourages all parties to problem solve and reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
The Solutions Panel consists of three trained mediators (a parent, an educator and a community mediator) who facilitate parties in coming to an agreement. Panels are scheduled at a mutually convenient time (usually within two weeks). All participants and mediators are legally bound by agreement to maintain confidentiality. Panels are provided at no cost and do not involve the use of attorneys.
Participation in the ADR process does not prevent use of the Due Process system.
