O.P., Opportunities for Pregnant and Parenting Teens is designed to serve pregnant minors and/or parenting minors and their children.
All school-aged students described above are eligible for instruction through our O.P. program; mothers and babies attend school together. In addition to core curriculum, the program focuses on continuing education, life skills, prenatal, postpartum and infant education, nutrition and health, individual and career counseling, as well as vocational opportunities and requirements.
Students are enrolled in academic classes tailored to the individual student's needs and grade level, including parenting and life skills for all girls. As a part of Charter Community School instructional offerings, curriculum follows California State Standards, thus assuring an easy transition to traditional high school, community college, university or vocational school.
The nursery, located at the El Dorado County Office of Education park is housed in the Ken Lowry Child Development Center. Its child-centered architectural design welcomes one and all. The well-furnished nursery includes an infant/toddler gym, educational toys, as well as napping areas, creating a warm and nurturing "home" and learning laboratory for the girls and their children.
While attending O.P. each girl has the opportunity to focus her attention on education, learn healthy parenting and life skills, confident that while she studies her child is nearby and well cared for.
O.P. students attend Campus classes, Monday through Friday, with a daily period devoted to the needs of teenage mothers and their infants.
