If you’re looking for an intellectually challenging extracurricular experience, Academic Decathlon might just be for you! The Academic Decathlon is a multifaceted competition where high school students can challenge themselves across a wide range of subjects, including music, economics, and public speaking. This event not only enriches students' knowledge but also fosters a strong sense of community and a culture of learning within schools. It's an excellent opportunity for students to form lasting friendships with peers who share their passion for knowledge and are dedicated to honing their academic and study skills.
How to join a team
Several local high schools have existing teams and are always looking for new decathletes. Contact your school's Academic Decathlon Coach to learn more about joining a team.
El Dorado High School - David Conrad
Mountainside Middle College High School - Tanya Jefferson
Oak Ridge High School - Jeff Hassian
Ponderosa High School - Joseph Beatty
Union Mine High School - Stephanie Luther
Starting a new team
Creating a new team is as easy as 1-2-3.
- Look for friends who are up for the challenge. It takes 6-9 students to form a team.
- Find a teacher or staff person to serve as your coach/advisor.
- Contact EDCOE to submit a request and get more information - Whitney Burke, Director of Communications and Strategy, wburke@edcoe.org.
A student who attends a high school without an existing Academic Decathlon team and who does not have enough students to form a new team may submit a Cooperative Team Agreement request if they wish to join a team from another high school. To submit a Cooperative Team Agreement request, contact Dena Allen at dkallen@edcoe.org.
