Volunteers
volunteering at the academic decathlon
This academic competition for high school students would not be possible without the involvement of many community members volunteering to serve as proctors and judges. We need your help! The volunteer opportunities available are:
-
Interview Judges - As an interview judge, you will be placed on a team with two to three other volunteers to interview decathletes (similar to a job interview) and evaluate their responses using the guidelines and scoring forms provided. All interviews will take place in person, in an arena-style setup (multiple tables stationed around a large room). All judges are expected to watch a brief video orientation in the 1-2 weeks leading up to the event. There will also be support available on the day of the event to answer any questions.
-
Speech Judges - As a speech judge, you will be placed on a team with one to two other volunteers to listen to decathletes present two speeches - one prepared and one impromptu - and evaluate them using the guidelines and scoring forms provided. Speeches will be judged in person. All judges are encouraged to watch a brief video orientation in the 1-2 weeks leading up to the event. There will also be support available on the day of the event to answer any questions.
- Testing Proctors - Monitor the Essay and Objective Testing events and ensure students follow rules to maintain testing integrity.
All Judges must be 18 or over.
